How to Improve Your Blogs Pagerank

When it comes to developing and promoting your blog the most important thing that you need to worry about is how to increase page rank . Google page rank is very important for a site, as getting ranking in the search engines is easy, when you have a good page rank.

Wondering how to increase page rank , there are a number of things that can be done that are discussed here:

Write quality content

content is the most important factor in deciding the page rank of your blog

  • Top quality content ranks very well in the search engine rankings (SER). When you write, write well, no matter how low your site ranks, quality contents will slowly aid in building up your website and your site will slowly move forward in the page ranking system.
  • When you write it is important that you write not only search engine optimized articles but also write information rich articles. Encyclopedic-like articles are the most searched for things in the world. If you do some serious back-linking on these articles, they’ll rank very high for keywords that get tens of thousands of searches a month.
  • However don’t write too many such posts, as encyclopedic-like keywords need a lot of backlinks to rank high in the SER, you won’t rank very high if you have too many keywords to rank for and not enough time to build enough backlinks. I suggest you write 3 to 4 encyclopedic-like posts every month, rest small articles, and spend the rest of the month building backlinks towards those 1-2 posts.

Aim for High PR Backlinks

the higher the value of the site you get a back-link from the higher the value

  • Google loves backlinks that are relevant and have a high PageRank themselves. This tells Google that your site is good, because a site that they index high is linking to it. Try to get links from websites that have a PR, at least 3, and have Dofollow links. Dofollow means that they count towards your search engine rank; otherwise they do not improve your PageRank.
  • To get an idea of what sites you need to target, use an online back link analyzer to analyze what sites link to a competitor of yours. Then aim is to get links on the same websites for your own site. However when developing backlinks be cautious as pages can be access by more than one url, for example, your home page could probably be accessed via the following three url:
  1. http://www.yourdomain.com
  2. http://www.yourdomain.com/
  3. http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html
  • The problem with linking to your pages via more than one url is that page rank is split between the different versions. For example, instead of having PageRank 4 on your home page, you might end up with a PageRank of 2 for all versions

Link Exchanges

link exchange is one of the most common way to get backlinks

This is one of the most popular methods for getting a backlink to increase your page rank.

  • There are two kinds of links, inbound and outbound links. Inbound links are always important as these increase your page rank and on the other hand outbound links will leak the juice out from your site.
  • Whenever you link to another web page or external website, you dole out a little bit of PageRank. So it is important to be selective with your links, i.e. outgoing links should be given to sites that have the same PageRank as yours, if not more.
  • You can simply add a special no-follow attribute to any outgoing links. See the sample link below:

<a href=”http://www.outbound-link.com” rel=”nofollow”>Outbound Link</a>

  • It is always good to do a 3-way exchange rather than a 2- way exchange i.e. A linking to C, C linking to B and B linking to A. Buying a link is not that much recommended as Google can penalize you and also it’s not worth the money spent.

Comment on blogs

do-follow comments provide you great back-links that can increase your pagerank

Commenting on other blogs is a great way to generate traffic for blogs. Though there are a few things that should be kept in mind beforehand:

  • Instead of commenting on a ton of blogs and sites, you should focus commenting on only a few high traffic websites.
  • Do not just write a random comment and try give your site’s link below, search for articles on sites that seem to be interesting and have content quite similar to yours, get engaged with the other commenters then write a decent comments on that posts, probably then at the bottom of your comment, include a ‘highly relevant’ link to one your blog’s post.
  • Do not write a lot of comments on a site or on a number of sites, in one single day Google might penalize you as it prefers a slow and rapid process of building backlinks.

Submitting article and feeds to Directories

submitting your article feeds to directories provide you valuable back-link

  • When you are thinking of gaining back links, exchanging newsletters and articles with related websites is another option. This is performed by swapping the articles and newsletters, which creates a direct do-follow back links for your site.
  • Create an RSS feed, submit it to all of the RSS directories, update your site at least 3 times a week and after you do this make sure you ping all of the ping services with your blog info. If you have WordPress then it can do this automatically for you, but make sure you only do it once. So if you have Feedburner, make sure that PingShot is not turned on if your blog software pings for you. If your software does this for you, make sure that you have a long list of all possible ping services. You can get this from doing a web search for it. Usually the default list is very short. You want to get your ping out to as many as possible.
  • However I would like to state that submitting your articles to RSS or article directories is an outdated method of developing backlinks. Instead of this you can share stuff on Facebook, Digg, Stumble, etc.  as it gives you an opportunity to connect directly to your readers. However this does not mean submitting articles at directories is not useful, it is just not recommended.

Internal linking of your Site

Complete the internal linking structure within your blog first. You should make sure that every page of your site can be reached from any page. This creates a complete linking path that the bots can follow when checking for updates on your site, or even indexing it. The best way to do this is to create a sitemap that includes every page of your site, then when you are done you just link to the sitemap from a small link at the bottom of every page, and that’s it.

This is the way that will allow you to interlink within your old articles of your website. This one of the best ways to increase the page rank of your website, as if the earlier backlinks had a higher page rank then it will be transferred to your new page or will be an added advantage in improving the page rank amongst the increasing tough competition.

Write Guest Posts

The best way, in my opinion, to develop quality backlinks is by writing guest posts. Writing guest posts for a high page rank site can give a significant boost to your site, as most site allow you to put a Dofollow backlink for your site at the end of your article, thereby providing you a valuable backlink. However it should be kept in mind that one should write posts on sites that have the same niche as yours.

Take Care of the 404 Pages

Google penalizes you for any 404 error it finds

If you’re site has a 404 error page you should monitor and redirect them using the 301 redirect script. If you are using WordPress use redirection plugin to do that. The reason this is a crucial part of SEO, is because if you have too many 404 pages. Google will consider your website low quality and will either skip it, meaning you won’t get indexed or will get stuck in the loop somewhere and they will eventually skip it as well, either way 404 pages are bad and you should take care of them. To find out whether your website has 404 errors use Google Webmaster Tools.

Avoid Black Hat SEO

even though black hat SEO appears work at that time but it can damage your blogs reputation

Google is strictly against Black hat methods so it is always good to avoid it. Keyword stuffing is a perfect example and should be avoided to produce quality and information rich content in which the keywords are added naturally without the knowledge of the reader, this talent will do the trick for you by not letting your competitor know which keyword is going to work effectively for promoting website. Google bots can easily differentiate between authenticated genuine contents and keyword stuffing.
